“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.
Play is the real work of childhood.” Fred Rogers

As visitors enter the new KidsWork Children’s Museum, they will find lots of exciting exhibits filled with action and fun.

THE FIRST FLOOR: SCIENCE IN ACTION
2

Why Beans?
Did you see our Sensory Table on the Main Level and wonder, “What’s with the beans?” As children experiment with different sized containers in the sensory table, they develop math skills such as counting, conservation, timing, matching, classifying and sorting. As children manipulate the materials, they begin to understand concepts such as more/less, full/empty. Science concepts such as cause and effect and gravity (beans fall down from the cup – not up) are explored. As they use the materials, children also develop pre-writing skills as they pour, spoon, grasp, and work on eye-hand coordination tasks.

 THE SECOND FLOOR: CREATIVITY ABOUNDS

Go ahead – color outside the lines!
We believe that all children are born artists. They are naturally curious, imaginative, inventive and intuitive. Art-making enables kids to use their imaginations and express their creativity. In the process, they develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, gross and fine motor skills, math and language skills. Our Art Room is always open – And you never have to worry about staying in the lines!

 JUST ARRIVED: PINSCREEN

Frankfort Fire Department and Lincoln-Way North Key Club
Come to the Rescue of KidsWork!

5The KidsWork Children's Museum Board was thrilled to have raised the funds needed to order a $20,000 interactive permanent exhibit called a 3D Full Body Pinscreen. The three perforated vinyl screens which comprise the exhibit each called for 66,000 clear pins and 66,000 ends caps to be merticulously inserted by hand. The Frankfort Fire Department and Lincoln-Way North Key Club came to the rescue! All three exhibit panels were painstakingly put together by the two organizations in just a few short weeks and were delivered to the Museum.

Firefighters unloaded the 200 pound panels from fire trucks and hauled them into the Museum with no mention made of sore fingers or the tedious nature of the job. Matt Jordan, Lincoln-Way North Key Club sponsor said,  " With every little bit of progress the students got more excited to see the finished exhibit--they were having fun "testing" the completed portions.  It was great for Key Club to collaborate with KidsWork and to know that their work was directly benefiting the Lincoln-Way community”.
